Simplicity For The Win!

July 12 is National Simplicity Day.

Truthfully, I don't know the history behind the person; Henry David Thoreau who the day honors but I appreciate the idea of being reminded to keep things simple.

SIMPLICITY sim·plic·i·ty | \ sim-ˈpli-sə-tē :  the state of being simple, uncomplicated, or uncompounded

For myself, simplicity comes as a breath of fresh air, minimizing what can be minimized and easy-going. So why do so many people (myself included) fill our plates with so many things at one time to do that we can't keep up and then cry at exhaustion? Why do we hold on to so many odds and ends only to be frustrated by all the clutter. I wish I knew the answer but I do know that we can change our habits, one step at a time.

3 WAYS I'VE IMPLEMENTED SIMPLICITY IN MY PERSONAL LIFE

1. I started with bullet journaling a few years ago and replaced my regular planner by having a free to use as I chose weekly/monthly/daily spread in a my jotter notebooks; not being constricted by the dated formats and the layouts. I follow my own rules on how I utilize Ryder Carroll's method but the one thing I don't stray from is using the index to easily find a specific page or note. Easy Peasy.

2. I've become a fan of using a wardrobe capsule. specifically Classy Yet Trendy It's an easy to use collection of your own clothing items that you mix and match to come up with a large number of outfits. Less is more in this case and it sure makes getting dressed in the mornings so much easier for me, not to mention the ease of being able to see everything in my closet.

3. My home cleaning routine for the house is done daily in small chunks. However, I don't do laundry daily but keep it to 2 designated days instead. Other than that I take one area of my home and spend a small amount of time on cleaning. As a child I was raised to clean on Saturdays, but I'd rather not spend my Saturdays as an adult cleaning, so I prefer to break it down and distribute it throughout the week.

This is just the beginning for me, I am hoping that I can implement more ways of keeping things simple for me and my family. I do hope that you can find ways to enjoy simplicity and joy in your day to day adventures of life.
